WFIA has been an integral part of the local community for over forty years. We believe in engaging with the community around us.

This Open Day is to help demystify Islam and Muslims. We welcome and encourage your questions. We receive questions from the community by the dozen via our website, by email, letters or phone calls. The Open Day is a chance to meet face to face and see for yourself.

What does the inside of a mosque look like?
Why not take a tour and see the inside of our beautiful mosque yourself – which is one of the best buildings in the whole borough.

How do Muslims pray?
Watch three of the five daily Muslim prayers live led by our expert Imams. You can see how congregational (group) prayers are important to Muslims and also hear the call to prayer (Azan) before each prayer.

What is Islam? Who are Muslims? What are their beliefs?
These are but a few among recent questions we receive almost daily.

Join us on this special occasion with your family and friends. There is lots planned inside including free henna painting and a hijab station.

We would be honoured if you could join us on #VisitMyMosque Day. This is an open invitation to all – no booking needed.

Basic Tajweed Course in English

WFIA Basic Tajweed Course

There are many virtues of reading and reciting the Holy Quran. Indeed, the Holy Book will intercede for us on the Day of Judgement.

Abu Umaamah, may Allah be pleased with him, related that the Holy Prophet Sallallaahu `Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “Read the Quran, for indeed it will come on the Day of Judgement as an intercessor for its companions.” [Muslim]

Imam Khurram Rafiq is teaching another course among the many he has held since he started with us. This time he will be teaching a Basic Tajweed Course starting on Friday 16th September, every Friday for ten weeks, for brothers and sisters.

Tajweed is a simply following a set of rules to ensure the Arabic letters and words of the Holy Quran are pronounced and recited correctly with the correct meaning.

Understanding Tajweed helps to avoid reciting a letter or a word wrong incorrectly and changing the meaning completely.

For example, the Arabic words Kalb (ﻠﺐ) and Qalb (ﻠﺐ) sound almost the same but are very different words. Kalb is dog and Qalb is heart. I’m sure you can think of a few sentences with the word ‘heart’, now replace ‘heart’ with ‘dog’. ‘My heart is in Makkah’, is not quite the same as ‘My dog is in Makkah’. Just one letter pronounced incorrectly changed the entire meaning.

We spend our lives following rules (consciously or unconsciously) of English, Urdu or other languages we speak.

What better way to honour the Holy Quran, than to read and recite it correctly in the beautiful Arabic language. This is a religious obligation for all of us. If you want to learn the basics of Tajweed, or even get a refresher if you learnt Tajweed along time ago, this is the course for you.

Please join Imam Khurram from Friday 16th September for this ten week course. Download the flyer and share with friends and family too. Not only will you be rewarded to reciting the Quran correctly yourself, you will also share the reward for others reciting it correctly.
